Rawlings' Death: I Have Announced The Suspension Of My Tour Of The Ashanti Region And All NDC Campaigns Across The Country - Mahama

Though general election is barely 24 days away, the NDC's Presidential Candidate, John Mahama, has suspended his campaign tour of the Ashanti Region and stopped the NDC's campaigns across the country after hearing of the sudden passing away of Former President J.J. Rawlings.

Rawlings is reported to have passed away yesterday morning at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital where he had been admitted to after suddenly being taken ill. In a press statement on behalf of her family announcing the death of her father, Hon Zanetor Rawlings her father passed away after a short illness, adding that the family requests privacy at this difficult moment.

Announcing the suspension of his campaign and all NDC campaigns across the country, John Mahama writes;

"I have announced the suspension of my tour of the Ashanti Region and all NDC campaigns across the country following news of the passing of our Founder and former President of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings. May his soul rest in peace"

John Mahama became a full-fledged politician in the Rawlings administration when he became MP for Bole Bamboi in 1997. Rawlings later appointed him Deputy Communication Minister and later made him the substantive Minister for that Ministry.
